Italjet Dragster by SLK

Italjet Dragster
Hi,

So this dragster is my 5th scooter. Bought it for some 400 euros. Then it needed a lot of bodywork and the engine was quite dead. Only front brake, tires worn etc. Now I have done some rebuilding already. Most of the bodywork is done, but I haven´t found a painter yet. The engine was finished until I endured a seizure with my Italkit ALU-ECO 70ccm. I got a cracked piston, which I didn´t notice when I assembled and so it seized after some 1200km. But that´s that. Im ordering an EVO2 cyl soon, so that will be the replacement. About the paintjob, the whole bodykit will be glossy black metallic, exept the front grill and undertail, which will be golden. The frame, rims , waterpump cover, vario cover and basically everything that is connected with the frame is going to be powdercoated golden aswell. I am planning to take the parts to sandblasting soon. I´m not quite shure about the carter yet, but I think I´m going to tune it for the EVO2 first, then sandblast it and finally powdercoat it black. There will be all sorts of modifications needed aswell, since I don´t have any lights or basically anything electric besides the Ignition-CDI-Coil connection. The scooter is going to be driven mostly daily for some 10km trips or so, but no long distance for shure. I will get a new Italkit ALU ECO, because SA doesn´t allow the switch

The setup:

Italkit ALU-ECO 70ccm - cylinder
Yasuni C16 - exhaust
Stage 6 HPC 12mm - crankshaft
SKF C4 Metal Cage - crankshaft bearings
Polini EVO - reedcage
Malossi MHR 19mm - carburettor
Malossi E5 - powerfilter
Polini Speed Control - variator
Polini - belt
Stage 6 CNC Drive -front pulley
Malossi Wingbell - clutch bell
Stage 6 Torque Control - clutch

The things that I need to add are:

Polini 15/42 secondary
TP gearing cover
Galfer Wave disks, front-back
Stage6 Racing brake pads, front-back
NGK ht lead and plug cap
Denso Iridium plug

And basically all the rest is going to be custom made. I´ll make pictures of it tomorrow, as it collects dust at the moment. I think by the end of the week I´ll take the whole thing apart and start completing by ride. The deadline is SPRING 2008.

i want to see pics, wish there was a place for my to uplaod mine, the project wouldnt be all that but carbon fibre effect bits (plastic and vaccum forming), polishing, race cylinder kit ported and looks. Good luck though

I don´t think much of these carbon fibre stickers. They look too fake to me. I´m definitely going for a racing look.

I got the answer from SA. They said it is yes a faulty piston. I will have to send it to them and pay the shipping. Then they send it to Italkit, and then I get a new one. No substitute is possbile, so the EVO2 is out. Good news anyway.

The rule is that you must show some pictures of your progress. Can you please post some pictures within 2 days? If you don't do it, i have to close your page, sorry

I will as I said before. I just reached home when it was already dark and I didn´t want to make pics with flash.

Tomorrow you will see some pictures.

Hi,

So this is what it looked like, when I bought it for 400$:

Then it was fully stock and most of the plastics were in terrible shape.

Some pics when I had the former Italkit on:

After a while of driving:

Got the EVO reedvalve:

another dragster project! are you gonna put the fairings back on?
and if so. how do you want to get the custom rear fairing back on with the original frame and gas/oil tank? you can't cut off to many frame because of the rear suspension. so you're gonna need side suspension like any other minarelli scoot.

Hi,

I have no oil tank. I will cut the rear plastics in two from the middle and possibly connect them somehow, if they dont align well enough. Atm I have suffered a setback. I tested the conrod, by moving it up and down to see if there is any slack. Then just out of nowhere a pice of the conrod falls off :S The place where the piston pen is, just in 2 pieces. Again I am hoping for a refund, but how the hell can such a thing happen with a seizure :S Oh and ofcourse it tested it just by hand. This kind of bad luck is outrageous....

That's so strange...Think that it could be much worse if it falls of with the engine runing...

BTW, very nice project, keep up the good work.
cheers

Hi,

So today I disembled the engine. Did a couple of pictures aswell. Some kind of feedback would be nice though...

It is really wierd that the face drive has suht kind of wear marks on it. Only 1200km of running...?

i think you should return that crank & ask for a new one, that obviously is a defect which caused the small end of teh conrod to simply fall apart, now i won't be getting a Stage6 crank in the future after what i saw just now. you are lucky your engine wasn't runnning, it could have been much worse.

This whole project is turning into an happy accident...
I´m hoping to get a new one, so when I get their answer I´ll send both the crank and cylinder to them. It is a real shame that the conrod broke, cuz the rest of the crank is in ideal shape.

Hi,

What do you guys think should I tune the carter to the Italkit, hoping to get some more power out of it? Since I have to take the carters apart anyway...?

we you can tune the carters & if you do it correctly there's more power to be had but there's no turning back to a stock cilinder from that point on, you'll only fit similar cilinders to the italkit like the gilardoni & polini evo kits.

use the gasket as a guide to scribe the lines onto the carters, put a little sealant to the gasket so it's sticks & use the cilinder to push it against the carters, put the head on & tighten the nuts & leave it on until the selnt dries & then pull the cilinder off, that should leave the gasket in place.

use a sharp blade to scribe the lines & then take off the gasket once you're done & pull the studs too, remember stay within the lines.

Hi,

Im going to start doing the carters during Friday and the rest of the weekend. Hopefully I will be satisfied with the result by the end of the weekend. I have a sharp permanent marker aswell, will that also do for the marking, and which kind of dremel head do you recommend, have to buy the head, so pictures would be good. Thnx tiba...

look for the "show us your porting tools" thread & you'll see what kind of heads we use, for the burr find a flame & oval shaped carbide burr for the 1/8" shank, i have lots of burrs with different shapes, invest in those so when you do some serious porting you never have to go out & buy things you don't have.

Hi,

I used loctite to attatch the gasket in place. Screwed the cylinder or and I´m going to mark it tomorrow, so I´ll make pictures just to be shure. However I think that it will be impossible to get the gasket off in one piece

yah, you should have use silicone sealant like i told you it soft enough when it dries so you can peel off the gasket without damaging it. :weird:
