:?Filotp here.Just found this site,To cool.I'm 55 years old and bought this 260-MainStreet in 2005.I've changed many motorcycle tires in my years, and ordered me a new back tire for my 260-MainStreet Scooter,it has a Liahai Yamaha motor watercooled,I bought from Geko,a dealer in Largo Florida, and brought home to Ohio.I'm not sure what you have to take off to get the back tire and wheel off to change the tire,I did break the axle bolt loose and figure take the axle bolt off and brake and already got the muffler off and was afraid to try anything else,I was afraid if I try to tap the back wheel off without being sure,I will mess something up.Anybody got any procedure on removing the back tire and wheel off this scooter?I can tell you all that when I first got it,I noticed it was running almost in the red on the Temp Gauge and I just pulled them two wires off that sensor and wired them together,so the fan runs all the time and took out the thremostat and threw it away, and flushed it out and put 50/50 antifreeze and in August the hottest part of the year, this motor temp gauge don't reach the half way, since I have done that, and I'm sure it would have blown up by now.I really like this scooter and when I decide to get another,I'll do the same thing to it.I learned that from them old Ford Escorts,Wire that fan on all the time and they will run until the wheels fall off, otherwise the engine gets hot and blows a head gasket, plus? If anyone knows the correct way to take the wheel off my 260mainstreet,or has a procedure,I'd appreciate it.Thank You ,Yours Truley Filotp.

Most of the time when getting a back tire off, you just have to remove the exhaust. If you want to get the tire off of the rim, you can use some tire irons and some soapy water to break the bead, and actually pry the tire off the rim. This method is a pain though, I've done it lots of times... I much prefer a tire machine.

Most tire shops will charge about $10 USD to remove a tire from the rim and throw a new one on if you bring them the rim and tire. My local motorcycle shop charges some $16 or so, which is still not too bad, until I get my own tire machine that is. :)

On the 260cc LC Chinese engines, I think you also have to remove the swing arm. If you take off the exhaust, the swing arm should come off pretty easily. When I worked at a Piaggio/Vespa dealer, a lot of times the rear shock also attached to the swing arm, and had to be unbolted from the arm and pulled out of the way, but all in all it wasn't too bad.

Hope this helps some. :) I used to ride motorcycles too, but I found scooters to be so much more fun, and it's not as popular in the United States. Now I even have my own scooter repair and tuning shop. :D

Thanks Josh,Very Much.I sat there and looked at it for a half hour,in my garage while it was pouring the rain and thought to myself,I'm going to have to take that right arm off and shock and the disk brake.Your right about riding the scooters, especially after motorcrossing and all them wrecks on them 1975,76,77&79,360Pursang,Bultacos 30years ago.Since you have a scooter shop now,and don't have a tire changer,I'llgive you my 101 precedure for taking off a old tire,on any cycyle, scooter tires front or back, instead of trying to use a tire jack and beat on them for a hour ,I got smart and use my saw-saw-with a hack saw blade and cut it off and use a wood wedge, when you get close to the rim,2-3 mins.tops and your ready to put the new tire on,and some good hand soap, and tire spoons you can have it on in no time,if i was still in my 20's and had a shop,i'd be buying me a cheap saw-saw,or use a hack saw, better than beating on it for a hour. Thanks Josh.Try this if you got one, works great, just make sure you are careful when you get by the wedge and don't saw the rim:) especially if its not yous:)thanks filotp, nite my naps worn off, back to bed.
