Setting Squish

I have just fitted a Athena cylinder kit, in the book it says to set the squish to 0.8mm.
With the standard base gasket my 1.5mm solder is not even being touched:mad: so my question is - should I replace the base gasket with one of the ally ones or machine the head to suite????

(BIG thanks to Darrell from www.50cctuning.com :winner: )

thanks

assemble with ally base gasket until you achieve 0.8 or no base gasket if neccessary either way use a smear of good sealant on both sides to seal as i find air leaks upon leakdown testing if not used

dont worry if its a little different + - 0.05
also use a 9 or 10 plug gapped at 0.4 to 0.45 (thickness of your thumbnail)

Almost never machine the head, if you have the LC O-ring head gasket. If the thinnest base gasket will not give you a closer squish, then machine the base. But you will change the timing a bit.

Thanks, I give the thin Ally base gaskets a go, (its AC) I'll set the spark plug gap using feeler gauges. I get enough dirt under my nails as it is ;)

Set the squish to 0.9mm no base gasket (just blue sealent) and a thiner head gasket. That will have to do as I'm not machining it.
