Op bladzijde 145 van het boek "Two stroke Performace tuning" schrijft Mr Bell;
" Consequently, when the humidity nosedives two-stroke tuners can run into serious problems, but probably not for the reason you imagine. It must be understood that when the humidity is high not only is there a smaller number of oxygen molecules being drawn into the cilinder, there is also a much larger than usual number of water molecules interpersed between the oxygen en fuel molecules. The effect is that the space between the two increases wich slows combustion flame speed because, rather than progressing rapidly from the fuel molecule to fuel molecule, the flame front comes up against water molecules which do not contribute to the combustion process. Thus the water suppresses violent combustion an detonation, just as a higher octane fuel or an octane boost additive would. Now if the humidity falls that detonation suppression effect is dismisched or even eliminated. It is as though the engine is now firing on a lower octane fuel. Clearly, if the mixture richness is not increased and perhaps spark advance reduced to composate, the engine could be detroyed by detonation."
