Clutch Bell too Shallow

Scootin' America!
'Alo friends,

It's no big secret that I have a few Chinese bikes. I like them because they are easy to modify, and cheap to buy. I have a few nice bikes as well, but the Kymco is not allowed to be modified, or my wife will have my head! She doesn't mind if I buy a $900 scooter new, and chop the sub frame to re weld it, cut all kinds of metal out of the carters, and throw a bunch of performance modifications and such into it... Most Chinese warranties are not worth the paper they're written on anyway (although the Marshin ones are actually good) Until the warranty run out on the Kymco, I'm seeing how far I can push these Marshin Area 51 scooters. They're a lot like the MZ Moskito scoots... Yes, they have quality issues, but the main thing is that they have Minarelli style engines. Always a plus for me...

Anyway, here's the problem. I noticed a harsh shudder on taking off. It would always smooth out after I got moving, so I took a look at the clutch... The clutch bell is too shallow. I was wondering if anyone out there could measure a Metrakit clutch bell and let me know how deep it is. Attached are two photos showing my problem:

Here you can see that both the clutch, and the bell are torn up. I couldn't capture it well with the camera, but there are actual metal shavings and burrs inside the clutch. Not a good sign!

Here you can see how the clutch pads are actually extending past the bell itself. Besides the cheap Chinese manufacturing of the clutch bell, this serves to be part of my problem. I hate that I've damaged my good clutch... but that's what I get for not paying proper attention when I put it together!

The stock clutch bell measures right around 23mm deep. I don't know if the winged performance one is deeper, so I'd like to get some input. :)

Thanks!

The clutch bell in the photo is stock. The clutch itself is a Metrakit. It's set to engage at higher RPM, but I'm not sure exactly where because I haven't bothered to put a tach on it to see. Perhaps I'll do this tomorrow.

In a normal scenario, does a performance clutch bell offer more usable surface than the stock? I want to order a winged clutch bell, but I don't want to do it unless I know it will fit properly. I'll simply put some red clutch springs back into the stock clutch for now if I have to.
