Athana reeds Valve installation ? (PICS)

Well I hit the wall again with that stupid Athena 70cc Kit

After fooling around with a Squish ,modifing base gasket to get it right.Cleaning the casting flaws

Now it's with the Carbon reeds

First Athena says to remove the stock reed et metal stopper to remplace them with there carbone reeds without the stopper

Two reeds are included one 0.32mm and 0.29mm

here my question should I put the thicker one on top (should it the stopper if I use one) or the use the smaller on top

Also one one side or the reeds is covered with yellow dots is this the top or the bottom

I must says athena cylinders are cheap but the instruction manual Really suCk

Also any Ideal of which Spark plug I should use with this cylinder kit ?
and at what Gap size

I just realize that in order of not using the metal stoper I would have to cut it to be able to put back the screws on

Just replace the stock ones with a set of the supplied ones.
Leave the reed-stops on, without them the petal-wear will be quiet high.

Make sure all settings are correct and then test-drive your scooter.
After that replace the petal with the other set and see if you can feel a difference.
If you can feal a difference take the ones that you feel perform better.

Don't FORGET to USE LOCTITE! On the screws when you mount the reeds, if you don't do that they will vibrate lose.

Where are you located??? I am in Brampton Ontario if you need some help.

Always replace the reed stop. If not it will cause the reeds to break if they open too far. You can modify the reed stops to get more lift (I have) but if they open too far or too abruptly (curve angle) they will snap.

The kit you have has two sets because some motors will work better with the thicker and some with the thinnner. Test test and test some more until you find what works best or just put one in and ride.

I put mine in a vice where it clamps the block. Then I pulled it gently at the very ends so it bends progressively. (I had another stock one to compare it to). The key is to make sure it doesn't open too abruptly too close to the clamping point of the reed. If it does it will snap reeds quickly. Another mod is to drill the reed stops so that the negative pressure will suck the petals off the block faster. I suggest if doing this do it after you have bent the stops.
