Hi There,
my names Ricky and I work in a scooter tuning shop in Bristol.
This is my 2005 Derbi GP1 racing project.
It started life as a stock 50cc with a bolt on pipe. Then I brought it as the second owner and ended up partly sensing the bore. So then I went and brought a bolt on 70cc kit and ragged it round for the summer the got board of the lack of power and the mass of problems I was having.
so I decided to fully strip the bike down and rebuild it with a malossi mhr rep for i.o.w this year !
also have access to a dyno and full workshop tools so im hopeing to get this to the top peak of mhr rep kits.
i started the project by complety striping it back to the frame. all the wireing came off and it was sanded down and repainted. fresh bearings and bushes. then it come onto the wireing. i striped all the wires back and got rid of all the ones i dont need. elec start. standard clocks, oil sensor etc. made my own loom then heatshrinked it all neat and cabled tied it to the frame.
the mhr kit was the first engine i have built. i built it in work and with some help and advice from the mechanics it was built and i assumed running fine... once fitted in the bike i started it and found it leaking water. once i inspected it closer i found it was leaking from the base gasket and into the engine. not wanting to take short cuts i striped the engine out again and cleaned, re lubed the bearings. got a fresh gasket set and tried again. got it fitted and it ran up to temp fine. toped the water up and was sorted.
then took it into work and straped it on the duno. i had a hard job trying to get the 24mm to work with the motoforce inlet, once started i ran it up and it pulled 10.2 bhp. not amazing but good for a first run. found the carb was spot on at full throttle but boged horable at mid/ low range. tryed a 17.5 and ran up fine. still pulled 10.2 bhp.
when i took it for the first run i had a 110 main jet and 8.2 rollers (stock polini ones) then swaped them for 5.0g rollers and a 95 main jet. added a polini gear up and it pulled just under 12 bhp.
12 bph isnt great for my but is on the boarder line of road scooters in the uk... next on my list is a 25mm dellorto carb and a malossi inlet. iv then got a full day on the duno to try and hit the magic 13.5 - 14 bhp with out a inner roter kit ! once i recive the polini inner roter kit and a few other top spec bits im hopeing to pull 14 bhp with it. this isnt much compared to euro scoots but in the uk it will be one of the top mid race road spec scoots.....
once the engine is done it will be on to he full on custom work. with the stage6 fork. rs24 rear shock combo its going to be low and stiff.
going to go for all blue panels with white inner panels and white wheels, engine case etc. adding a few little bits like blue brake lines. some fiberglassing and it should be a nice ride i hope.
before anyone says why spend so much on this bike. " we have aerox, typhoons, nrgs in the shop every day and every bike is the same. bar conversion scrached panels and a low end sport kit." the last thing i want is a common bike so i thought this would be my best bet for a project !
