Just turn the crank to the TDC and rotate back to 4,8 mm this is 37 degree, after that match the flywheel's signal point with the pick-up on the stator (while the crank is fixed at that 4,8 mm)! You match the two thing by rotating the stator/pick-up as you said (on MInarelli or Suzuki it is easy) but Piaggio has a separate sensor so you need other modification. The other method is rotating the flywheel on the crank (if the positioning key is removed).
Because it may be true! If 5.8 is advisable just try it out! But I don't know what is the trick Maybe the bike is good with such a big advance! Or the 5,8 mm is for the marking point.
