CDI options on Yam/Minarelli

Skunky

Too old to die young
I'm still asking questions guys!
(Being a novice with scooters and picking things up from the 'net as I go along!!)

From the experience & knowledge you guys have had -
To derestrict the cdi, I just need to disconnect the red wire?

Does this affect the engine in any other way?

Also I have seen on E-Bay, 2 other types of aftermarket Taiwanese CDI units.
One is a standard one and the other is a race one with timing advance!!

Has anybody used either of these & are they any good/reliable/non damaging, for a pretty much standard road use engine?

Thanks for any & all info.

Hi Skunky,
I run one of those race CDI's (scooter assasins - Ebay) for £15 or so it does make a small differance, I'm racing on the 17th of this month I'll let you know how it performs in the field.

CDI - RED WIRE!!

Well -
I disconnected the red wire at the CDI end of wiring loom.

Yes it was the restriction problem. My jog will now go off the clock!!
I guess it is doing approximately 72kph on the flat.
(gotta be careful tho, still running the piston & cylinder in)

When I next get some spare cash, I think I will try a sport variator, probably Polini.

Hopefully then I will be able to cruise at 40mph on the flat & not hold up as much traffic!!
