Can anybody help me?
Problem is with my ignition switch - I can start the engine with or without the key in the ignition switch. I checked the wires from the ignition switch and the wire going into CDI and they seemed to be totally okay.
Is there possibly anything else that can cause this?

probably your contacts of your ignition are broke, try to find it out with a testmeter (multimeter?) and search the cause but I think its your ignition
